If you can pass the rigorous training program, nursing jobs are increasingly available, due to the aging US population, as well as the proliferation of healthcare services. Physical therapists help people who have injuries or illnesses improve their range of movement and manage pain. Physical therapist assistants work under the direction of physical therapists in treating patients. Registered nurses (RN), and licensed vocational nurses (LVN), provide patient care and emotional support. Diagnostic medical sonographers use ultrasound imaging equipment that directs sound waves into a patient’s body in order to diagnose medical conditions.

Research various nursing degree programs that meet your requirements. The CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) is the first step in becoming a nurse. Most CNA programs can be completed within a few months, allowing you to begin working immediately. The next step after the CNA degree is to become an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or LVN ( Licensed Vocational Nurse). 1-year nursing certificate programs train students to pass the licensing test to become LPNs or LVNs. A 4-year BSN program allows students to study specialized areas of nursing, including pediatrics, geriatrics and mental health nursing. Students may also study allied health topics through elective courses. An RN has to cope with more responsibility, and oversees the work of LPNs and CNAs under their supervision. Please check with your state board of nursing for practical details and specific exams that you must pass in order to become board certified.
